SAN PEDRO, CA----WestWind Engineering, Inc. announced that it has recently been awarded full certification as a HUBZone small business by the Small Business Administration (SBA). HUBZones are areas designated by the Federal Government as being “historically underutilized business” zones. To become certified as a HUBZone business, a company must meet certain guidelines and criteria specified by the SBA that are designed to aid business development in specific geographic areas.
Mary Anne Graves, President and CEO of WestWind Engineering, said that the company “is pleased to receive this certification. We are glad that we can contribute to the economic development of the area as we grow in our business.” She said the HUBZone certification will also benefit WestWind’s clients because it can help them satisfy diversity supplier goals that many companies are looking to meet. Federal government contracts also commonly mandate that a certain percentage of work be subcontracted to vendors and suppliers who are certified as HUBZone small businesses. In addition, WestWind is also certified as SDB and 8(a) by the SBA and holds a Top Secret facility clearance for government work.
